The Osun House of Assembly, on Tuesday, confirmed the appointments of retired AIG Wale Abbas and Mr Adekunle Omoyele as Chairman and Commander respectively of the Amotekun Corps in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun had on Monday, forwarded the names of the two appointees to the state assembly for screening and confirmation.
While reading the letter during plenary session, Osun Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, quoted the governor as stating that the move is to strengthen the state’s security apparatus.
The assembly, after asking the appointees to submit copies of their Curriculum Vitae and other relevant documents on Monday, screened them on Tuesday and thereafter confirmed their appointments.
Egbedun, after the confirmation, congratulated the new appointees, urging them to leverage their wealth of experience to enhance security across the state.
He equally admonished them to foster a strong working relationships with other security agencies with the goal of making Osun State a safer place.
In his remarks, the new Amotekun Board Chairman, Abbas, pledged to work closely with all stakeholders in the state to combat crime and ensure the security of lives and property.
NAN recalls that Gov. Ademola Adeleke, through the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, had in a letter dated July 3 appointed retired AIG Abass as Amotekun Chairman.
The governor also appointed retired CSP Isaac Omoyele as the Amotekun Corps Commander while the appointment of retired Capt. Benedict Akanni as Osun Amotekun Field Commander subsist.
Retired Brig.-Gen. Isah Aderibigbe and retired. Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi , the pioneer Chairman and Commander respectively of Amotekun Corps in Osun were replaced by Gov. Adeleke after serving out their four years term (NAN).
