Onuachu Says Won’t Force Transfer From Genk

Paul Onuachu has insisted he will not force a big transfer away from Belgian Pro League club KRC Genk.

Onuachu Wednesday night made history when he became the first Nigeria star and only the fourth African to be named the best player in Belgium after he scooped the Golden Boot.

The Nigeria admitted he was disappointed he did not move in the summer as widely expected, but he will soldier on even if he did not eventually transfer.

“It was a small disappointment because I was ready for a transfer,” he said.

“Well, if you sometimes want a little too much, it won’t happen. And vice versa.

If nothing comes again later? Then I’ll just stay with Racing Genk and life will go on.

“I don’t want to force anything.”

Meanwhile, former Belgium star Marc Degryse has defended the choice of Onuachu as the winner of the Golden Boot ahead of the favourites.

“In the end, football is all about scoring goals, the striker is also the most difficult position,” Degryse explained to Het Laatste Nieuws.

“But it’s deserved, because he’s done a great job for two seasons in a row.”
