Ondo State Government, on Wednesday, distributed building materials and relief items to victims of rainstorm in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that rainstorm had, between Feb. 28 and March 1, wrecked havoc to buildings in Ipele, Igboroko, Upenmen and Ago-Panu communities within the council area.
Speaking at the distribution of the items in Owo, the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said that the state government felt the pains of the people of the area.
According to him, government has always been helping victims of natural disasters in the state.
Aiyedatiwa said that the state government was, however, happy that despite the huge impacts of the rainstorm, no life was lost.
“Today, I am here, on behalf of Mr Governor, to once again sympathise with the victims of the rainstorm and to also handover some building materials and relief items to them.
“This exercise is line with the utmost desire of the administration of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to prioritise the welfare of the good people of this state by ensuring that their rights to security and protection are ensured.
“You will agree with me that this administration has, since inception, delivered massive dividends to the people through the execution of life-impacting projects across the state.
“Let us, therefore, join hands and work together in this onerous task of enhancing our communal resilience and protecting our valued environmental assets. This demands concerted efforts,” he said.
The deputy governor tasked the people on disaster risk reduction and enhanced collaboration between emergency responders at community, local and state levels.
Chairman of Owo Local Government, Mr Samuel Olagbegi, expressed appreciation of the state government for the quick intervention.
Olagbegi later urged people of the local government to join hands in the task of enhancing communal resilience and protecting valued environmental assets.
Speaking with newsmen after the event, a member of the state House of Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, commended the state government for the quick response to ease the pain of the people.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Folorunso Fagba, who spoke on behalf of others, appreciated the state government’s responsiveness to the plight of the affected people. (NAN)
