The Ondo State Government has issued a stern warning to those responsible for appointing traditional rulers in the state, emphasizing the need to strictly adhere to the established due process for selecting, approving, and installing Obas.
The government also pointed out that individuals who proclaim themselves as Obas without following the proper procedures and wear unauthorized crowns would face severe consequences, potentially even life imprisonment.
The warning was handed down during the official ceremony where the Instrument of Appointment and Staff of Office were presented to two newly appointed monarchs in the Okitipupa and Ilaje Local Government Areas of the State.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, who represented Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu at the event, reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity of the Oba installation process.
Governor Akeredolu emphasized that the state will take decisive action against any individual or group, including princes, Ruling Houses, and kingmakers, who disregard government directives and attempt to exploit the process for personal gain.
The governor urged the newly appointed monarchs to view their roles as a divine calling, urging them to exercise their authority and granted powers judiciously. READ ALSO:
