Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has criticized ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, dismissing his recent claims of a possible arrest as an attempt to gain public sympathy.
In a post on X, Omokri labeled El-Rufai a “serial liar” and “master of manipulation,” accusing him of fabricating stories for personal gain.
He cited Power, Politics, and Death by Segun Adeniyi, which detailed how El-Rufai allegedly spread falsehoods to undermine the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and his wife, Turai.
“If El-Rufai could lie against a dying man and his grieving wife, who is Tinubu that he cannot lie against?” Omokri questioned.
He also referenced former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s autobiography, My Watch, where Obasanjo described El-Rufai as someone with a “penchant for reputation savaging” and an inability to remain loyal to anyone but himself.
Omokri dismissed El-Rufai’s claim of postponing an overseas study to challenge the government, suggesting instead that the former governor might struggle to secure visas to Western countries due to past controversial remarks.
He recalled El-Rufai’s 2019 statement threatening foreign election observers with “body bags”, which drew strong condemnation from the European Union.
“El-Rufai is not staying in Nigeria out of patriotism. He is staying because he has nowhere to run,” Omokri asserted.
He further accused El-Rufai of making false claims against him and Senator Shehu Sani, alleging that they were recruited to tarnish his image. “How can we destroy a reputation he never had?” Omokri retorted.
Concluding his remarks, Omokri claimed that El-Rufai’s allegations of a planned arrest were merely a distraction to hide his inability to leave the country.
“El-Rufai lies, manipulates, and deceives. That’s what he does best,” Omokri added.
