The state of uncertainty hovering over Imo state for sometime now erupted again Sunday afternoon as what was earlier suspected to be the kidnapping of
Chief Uche Nwosu, son-in-law of ex-governor of Imo state Rochas Okorocha, has been confirmed to be an arrest by the Nigerian Police Force.
Nwosu was earlier today reported to have been kidnapped by the ubiquitous “Unknown Gunmen” terrorizing Imo state as video of his alleged kidnap surfaced in the social media.
But Imo State Police Command has come out to claim that Nwosu was arrested and not kidnapped by the Police.
In a terse statement authored by Mr. Michael Abattam, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) acting on behalf of Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, the reason for Nwosu’s arrest was not given.
The statement titled: ARREST OF CHIEF UCHE NWOSU, read in parts: “This is to inform the general public that chief Uche Nwosu was not kidnapped but was arrested by the police and Imo state police command is aware of the arrest and presently he is in police custody”.
“This is to refute the earlier news that has being making rounds on social media that he was kidnapped by unknown persons / gunmen”.
“The Commissioner of Police while using this medium to assure imolites of the command’s commitment in ensuring the safety of Life and prosperity this yuletide seasons , adviced the general public to always shun fake news”.
Imo state has recently lost her “Enjoyment Capital” of Nigeria status to become the “hot-bed” of insecurity in the entire South East with none state actors competing to dominate the un-governed space.
In the past 12 Calendar months, different terror groups have been running amok in the state, leaving in its wake blood, tears and sorry.
