Charlton Athletic have confirmed that goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has been invited to join the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, Prompt News Online reports.
Okonkwo, who is currently on loan at Charlton from Wrexham, is in line to make his competitive debut for Nigeria in the qualifiers.
The 24-year-old has two international caps to his name after making his Super Eagles debut during Nigeria’s Unity Cup campaign at The Valley in May.
He will battle Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye for a place in Eric Chelle’s starting XI.
Okonkwo has featured four times for Charlton since the start of the season.
Nigeria will begin their qualifying campaign against Madagascar’s Barea at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, September 25.
The Super Eagles will then travel to face Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus four days later.
