By Innocent Odoh The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the approval and the composition of a 13- man Governing Council and 10 Board of Trustee on the clean-up of Ogoni in the Niger Delta.
The APC chieftain said that again the President has demonstrated to the people of Niger Delta that his commitment to the clean-up of Ogoni land is not a political jamboree.
President had inaugurated the clean up on June 2 at Bodo in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers.
A statement signed in Abuja on Sunday by Comrade Timi Frank, also called on the various militant groups in the region to lay down their arms and henceforth, give the president a benefit of doubt, saying President Buhari will surely deliver on his promises to the region.
Timi Frank, who is also a Niger Delta son, called on leaders across the region to take advantage of “a sincere president like President Muhammadu Buhari who has started doing to the region what their son, former president Goodluck Jonathan could not do for six years as President.”
Announcing the committee at weekend, Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, in a statement by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Bukar Hassan, said the structures would ensure inclusiveness, accountability, transparency and sustainability of the exercise.
Reacting to the statement Frank said: “This is a President who knows and value the real meaning of integrity. President Buhari will never promise what is not possible. So, I called on all my brothers, sisters, young and old, and our leaders across board in Niger Delta to cooperate with the government, discourage militancy and give peace a chance for the success of this project in our region.”
While calling for patience as the APC government lay solid foundations for the cleanup, the APC spokesman urged all the Niger Delta communities, especially the Ogonis, to support the remediation and restoration efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari led government.
