Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly denied Peter Obi’s allegations that APC spokesman Felix Morka threatened his life.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ganduje described Obi’s claims as “unfortunate and misleading,” calling them “pure mischief and outright falsehood.”
He added that although such allegations would typically be ignored, the party felt compelled to respond to “refute this baseless narrative.”
According to Peoples Gazzette, Ganduje also expressed support for Morka’s comments, stating, “The party fully stands by Mr. Morka’s stance as he defends the federal government and works to correct false information spread by politicians with ulterior motives.”
Obi, who ran as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, finishing third but claiming to have won, recently alleged that the APC government was persecuting him and his family, while pressuring his associates to cut ties with him.
In an interview with ARISE TV on Sunday, Morka responded to Obi’s statements, accusing the former Anambra governor of continuing to sulk over his electoral defeat and acting irrationally in his efforts to destabilize President Tinubu’s administration. Morka criticized Obi, calling him a “prophet of doom” and a “voodoo economist,” and claimed that Obi was making erratic public statements without rational thought.
“Mr. Obi is shooting from the hip. He is not focused or rational in his approach,” Morka stated. “He has crossed the line multiple times, and at this point, whatever consequences come his way are self-inflicted.”
Meanwhile, the Obidient Movement has accused the APC of endorsing violence against Obi following Morka’s remarks, while the APC has sought to clarify why Morka made such statements, reiterating their position that Obi’s comments were inciting unrest against the government.
