The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, warned that eligible voters should adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines so as to be allowed to vote in the Nasarawa Central Constituency By-Election in the state.
Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, Resident Commissioner of INEC in Nasarawa state made this known during a meeting with political leaders, security agencies and other critical stakeholders in Lafia.
Ajidagba warned that all eligible electorates should wear their face masks before appearing at their polling units.
He disclosed that infrared thermometers, hand washing points with running water and hand sanitizers will be provided and distributed to all polling units in Nasarawa Central in preparation for the poll.
“ Since we are desirous of fulfilling our constitutional duties, we have devised means of guaranteeing safety of personnel and electorates during the voting process”, he said.
He reiterated that the commission intends to uphold all COVID-19 safety guidelines during the by-election and other elections that may come up during the pandemic.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Bola Longe charged all voters to be orderly and composed themselves during the election.
Longe warned that any political thug found trying to disturb the election process will be arrested by the security agents.

The election set to hold on the 8th of August 2020, is to fill the vacuum created by the lawmaker’s sudden demise.
