The preliminaries of the ongoing Obasa Games 2025 has been concluded, setting the stage for next phase of the developmental initiative aimed to unearth sports talents that will nurture to represent the state and country in the future.
The highly competitive preliminaries held on Monday across the six education districts in Lagos State culminated with Education District 1 qualifiers for participants drawn from secondary schools in Agege and Alimosho.
Government Model College, Meiran hosted the final leg of the Education District qualifiers opened to students who competed in Boxing, Table Tennis, Chess, Scrabble, Ayo Olopon and Athletics.
Themed “from the streets to stardom’ the third edition of the sporting fiesta, organized annually by Kings Sports International in honor of the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, has been fiercely contested by students across two age categories, Under 15 and Under 18.
Following the conclusion of the Education Districts qualifiers, students that came through the preliminaries will now converged for the opportunity to make podium finishes and share from the prize monies.
Chairman of Agege Local Government, Honorable Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, said the initiative which started as football event for teams in Agege before it was elevated to a multi sports fiesta for participants across Lagos West Senatorial District was enhanced this year to become event for the whole of Lagos State.
Obasa who doubles as the Chairman of Kings Sports International, said expectations are high as the games, which has been an exciting showcase of young talent are eager to bring pride and honor to their schools and families. will impact sports development and aid talent discovery.
The games will climax with the grand finale on Saturday, December 13, with winners in all events including football sharing from the 12 million naira prize money.
