A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps has been crushed to death after a trailer reportedly rammed into several vehicles around Agodi Gardens in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday.

Several other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident, which reportedly occurred after the truck driver was involved in multiple collisions around the Sango area of the state capital.

Investigations by PUNCH Metro revealed that the driver allegedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi Gardens, where the trailer eventually collided with a motorcycle conveying the corps member, killing the victim on the spot.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said the articulated vehicle had been involved in several collisions before the fatal crash.

According to the witness, the driver continued driving towards Agodi after the earlier collisions, resulting in further chaos along the route.

Another eyewitness said the incident became fatal when the trailer reached the Agodi Gardens area and rammed into the motorcycle carrying the corps member.

“The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the NYSC corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” the witness said.

The source further alleged that the driver had attempted to flee after the earlier collisions around Sango before the fatal incident occurred.

A visit to the scene by our correspondent showed that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps had arrived to attend to the situation.

The injured victims were reportedly taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased corps member had yet to be established, while there was no official confirmation on whether the truck driver had been arrested.
