By: Godwin Kingsley, Lafia The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE) has given Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State three days ultimatum to reinstate over 5000 sacked local government staff and refund its money.
The call came after the Nasarawa state chapter of the union resolved its lingering crises which started in 2010 as a result of inconclusive election and constituted a Care-Taker Committee to conduct a fresh election.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the committee in Lafia, Wednesday, the National President of NULGE, Ibrahim Khalid called on Governor Al-Makura to release all entitlement belonging to the union since it has resolved it crises.
“The state governor has been giving us hope that our money is intact. Because we had problem in the union, we could not go and ask for our money with one voice but now that we have resolved our crisis, we are giving the governor from now till Friday to refund our money and
reinstate all sacked local government staff”, he said.
Khalid who noted with dismay how local government staffs were maltreated during the union’s feud called on the government to pay their entitlement and effect their promotions.
He thanked the leaders of the state chapter for resolving it crises and ascertained that the peace brokered would result to improvement of local government staff welfare.
The National President, however, swore-in the new Care-Taker Committee, charging them to be proactive and transparent in the course of carrying out their duties.
In his response, the Chairman of the 7-man Care-Taker Committee Abdullahi Mustapher thanked the national president for his role in brokering peace in the state union.
He gave his assurance that everybody would be carried along adding that transparency and equity would be the focal point of the committee.
Prompt News Online gathered that the committee in-line with section 6, subsection 3 of NULGE constitution will stay in office for 3 months within which it is expected to conduct elections and handover to the duly elected official.
