The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter Chairman, Emmanuel Ogbeche, has accused Nigerian security agencies of complicity in the disappearance of Mr. Tordue Salem, a Reporter with Vanguard Newspapers.
Speaking at a World Press Conference held at NUJ FCT Secretariat, Utako, Abuja on Wednesday in
collaboration with Emmanuel Onwubiko led Coalition of Civil Society Groups, Ogbeche said the Reporter could not have disappeared in the streets of Abuja without Nigerian security agencies knowing about it.
According to him: “NUJ is convinced that Mr. Salem could not have disappeared from the streets of Abuja without State authorities unaware of it and from what we knew that a journalist who was missing in the past surfaced after he claimed he was detained in an underground facilities by State Actors”.
The FCT NUJ boss therefore said the Union is giving the Nigerian Police FCT Command 24 hours to produce the missing Vanguard Newspapers Reporter or prepare for the action NUJ will take”.
Also speaking at the occasion, renowned Civil Society Group leader, Emmanuel Onwubiko berated the management of Vanguard Newspapers for not raising alarms over the missing of its staff for days.
He also asked the National Assembly to intervene in the disappearance of the Reporter who also covers NASS for Vanguard Newspapers.
Onwubiko also called on the Federal Government and that national body of NUJ to intervene in the matter.
PromptNews reports that Vanguard reporter, Tordue Henry Salem has been missing for over one week even as his family has searched for him in the various hospitals and mortuary in Abuja without any luck of finding him dead or alive.
