The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has solicited support of farmers and other stakeholders for the Agro Rangers Squad of the corps to ensure food sufficiency and security.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Iskilu Akinsanya, made the call in a statement issued by the corps Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun and made available to newsmen on Monday in Ibadan.
Akinsanya said that Oyo State could feed the nation if the necessary support was given to the Agro Rangers Squad of NSCDC in order to adequately protect the farmers while on the field.
He said that the establishment of the Agro Rangers Squad was necessitated by the challenges faced by farmers disrupting cultivation of farmland and rearing of livestocks to promote food security.
Akinsanya commended the Sepeteri community, Saki West Local Government Area, for equipping the Rangers with necessary tools to patrol 365 farms located in the area to enable farmers work on their farms.
“This activities have been going on for quite some time and have yielded good result.
“The Agro Rangers was created to serve the citizens of Nigeria, support them with what they can use to patrol your farms and be rest assured of safety and food sufficiency,” he said.
The commandant urged farmers and well meaning Nigerians to emulate the good gesture of the Sepeteri community and allow Agro Rangers serve them better to enhance food security in the state and Nigeria at large. (NAN)
