The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State has embarked on a psychological assessment test for its personnel under the state and Zone A commands.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commandant General (CG) of NSCDC, Mr Abdullahi Muhammadu, on April 23 ordered a psychological test for the personnel nationwide.
This directive followed the killing of 10 Boys Brigade members with a car by its personnel in Gombe State.
The personnel reportedly crashed his car into an Easter procession killing 10 Boys’ Brigade members drawn from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Madaki and two parishes of ECWA Church in Bamusa and Barunde.
The errant officer was subsequently lynched by a mob.
“Apart from the testing to re-examine the psychological and physical stability of personnel, the Corps will embark on massive training and retraining programmes for all personnel in line with global best practices,” the CG stated.
Commandant, Lagos State command of NSCDC, Mr Tajudeen Balogun, who declared the screening open, said about 2,500 officers and men would participate in the three-day exercise.
He said the exercise was to get the best out of the officers and men in carrying out their duties.
Mrs Florience Adigun, a Commandant under Zone A command, who represented the Assistant Commandant General, Zone A, My Andy Dettar, said the exercise would improve the service delivery of the Corps.
She advised the officers and men to be open to the psychologists and tell them their challenges so that the corps would know how to assist them.
The head of behavioural forensic unit of NSCDC, Abuja, Mr Tersoo Shaapera, said the exercise was legal and compulsory for all corps.
Shaapera said that certificate would be issued to them after the screening.
He added that the exercise would afford the corps the opportunity to have medical data of its personnel.
“During the screen, we will see those that have challenges and how the corps will help them out. This exercise will help the corps to serve the public well,“ he said.
