By Gracious Akujobi Director General of National Sports Commission (NSC) Gbenga Elegbeleye has directed that Super Falcons resume camp on February 12 ahead of their All Africa Games and Olympics qualifiers.
Elegbeleye told Prompt News that the Nigerian national senior women team that won the African Women Championship in Namibia is expected to report to camp in Abuja to begin preparations for the games slated for this year and next year respectively.
He said the delay in resuming camp for Falcons unlike the Dream Team who resumed last December was because the African champions already have a team in place and would not need to go through screening.
“We have in liaison with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) decided that the women Olympic team should begin camping on February 12 and I believe the NFF will invite players and pick the venue where they will lodge.
“The national Under-23 team began camping much earlier because they are starting from the scratch, screening and blending of players while Super Falcons are already on ground. It is not as if we are discriminating against or neglecting the women team but we are working with plan” he stated.
Elegbeleye also stated that the NSC will in liaison with the NFF work towards winning the gold medals at both the All Africa and Olympic games.
