The National Sports Commission (NSC) is planning to spend N2.4 billion to prosecute various sporting activities in 2014 if its proposals are approved by both Chambers of the National Assembly.
According to the details of the 2014 budget proposal presented to the two Chambers of the National Assembly recently by the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the entire budget for the Commission is N5, 546, 009 billion.
However, the budget is not explicit about the sporting activities lined up for prosecution with the fund. Nigeria is billed to participate in the Commonwealth Games holding in Scotland, United Kingdom in 2014.
Also, further breakdown shows that the personnel cost will gulp N1, 196, 106 billion; overhead cost, N2, 921, 800 billion while the capital expenditure is N1, 428, 099 billion.
Under the capital expenditures, the Commission will spend N700 million to rehabilitate and repair the six federal stadia across the country as well as maintain the High Performance Centre with N100 million.
In the same vein, it budgets N628 million for the construction and provision of sporting facilities including completion of mini stadia across the six geo-political zones in the country.
