By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia The chairman, Nasrawa House of Assembly Committee on information, Hon. Makpa Mala has said that chairmen and councilors in the state would not have their tenure extended at expiration on March, 24th 2016.
He disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in his office, adding that the house was fully ready to adhere strictly to the 2009 Local Government laws as amended which stipulate a period of two years for elected chairmen and councilors in the state.
Makpa Mala who is representing Wamba constituency also debunked the rumours going around that local Government chairmen and councilors’ tenure in the state would be extended by one year.
“We are yet to receive the bill from the executive to that effect, even if there is such bill, it needs a month to recall the 2009 local government bills which will take another one month to amend “Mala added.
Meanwhile, chairman Nasarawa State independent electoral commission (NASIEC) Dr Abdullahi Madibbo, has advocated for the use of card reader in the forthcoming Local Government election to avoid rigging.
