Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has assured residents of the state that no medical facility in the state will be under-utilised in the provision of quality and affordable healthcare services for all.
Oyebanji, who gave the assurance on Friday during an on-the-spot assessment of facilities at Oba Adejugbe General Hospital, Ado Ekiti, promised to give the hospital a facelift to make it more conducive for citizens.
He said that his administration would make all the health facilities in the state more conducive and inviting so as to reduce pressure on the teaching hospital, which is a tertiary institution.
The governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare services.
He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with what he called low utilisation of the general hospital, despite government’s huge investments on the facility.
Oyebanji, who was conducted round the hospital complex by the Chief Medical Director, Dr Gbenga Omotosho, said he would ensure that the money invested in the facility were justified through provision of quality healthcare services for the people.
“It is a work in progress and I am glad that I came based on the intelligence report I got on the facility.
“I have gone round and I can assure you that we will reflect on how to put this place into a better use.
“It is a massive facility that is grossly under-utilised. That is why I am here with the Head of Service, Commissioner for Health, Electricity Board and those who have one thing.or the other to do with ensuring that the money we have invested here is productively used for the interest of Ekiti people,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was accompanied to the hospital by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani and the Head of Service, Mr Dele Agbede.
Others were the Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr Seun Odewale and Special Adviser, Media, My Yinka Oyebode.
Oyebanji also paid a visit to the Customary Court of Appeal complex at Oke-Ori Omi area of Ado-Ekiti to assess the extent of work there and the facilities on ground.(NAN)
