Gov. Umar Bago of Niger has been honored with the most Innovative Governor award in recognition of his achievements in the state.
The award was presented to the governor by the House of Representatives Press Corps at the end of a three-day retreat in Minna.
Grace Ike, Chairperson of the House of Representatives Press Corps, commended Bago for his service.
She described him as a dedicated contributor to the development of the Nigerian economy.
No fewer than 80 journalists participated in the three day retreat in the state capital.
In his address, Bago expressed his appreciation for the corps’ dedication to the coverage of activities of the parliament.
He said that his 12 years in the House of supported by the corps which inspired him to organise the retreat.
The governor pledged his continued support for parliamentary reporters in their pursuit of excellence.
Bago said that the retreat for the corps would become an annual event in Niger .
He stressed the need for collaboration in ensuring accurate reportage to project positive image of Niger.
“Our story must be told and heard, and the best way to convey our objectives is by sharing our stories ourselves.”
“Your decision to hold this retreat in Minna, Niger has a positive impact on our local economy.
“Our hoteliers and food vendors are delighted. By the grace of God, this retreat will become an annual tradition in Niger.
