Network for Community Advancement and Empowerment (NCAE) on Thursday, trained no fewer than 200 state actors on Conflict Management and Peace Building to Enhance Community Security and Social Cohhesion.
The capacity building workshop had participants drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, DSS and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
The Team-Lead at NCAE and host, Abdullahi Salihu Ari asserted that the workshop which took place in Lafia, was in pursuance of the objectives of the “Community Security and Social Cohesion for Conflict Affected Communities ” project being implemented in Lafia, Doma, Keana and Obi Communities.
According to him, the project is funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Ari welcomed the participants to the training as he charged them to judiciously use the opportunity availed to ask questions that would further enlighten them on effective ways to ensure community peace.
Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule on NGOs, Munira Abdullahi, commended the organizers for the laudable initiative.
Abdullahi, who was represented by Nazeer Usman expressed government’s readiness to partner with NGOs to ensure the growth and development of Nasarawa state.
In his remark, the UNDP State program Officer on Peacebuilding, Mr Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of participants as he charged them to be committed in the quest for effective security.
Some of the key issues discussed by the training facilitators, Mr Obadiah Solomon Ovye and Dr Abdullahi Dubagari of Turkish Nile University were ; Conflict Mitigation, Conflict Resolution, Peacebuilding approaches and the Roles of the various state actors in their quest to achieve community peace and social cohesion.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (operations), DCP Stephen Olarewaju and Deputy Commandant of NSCDC, DCC Okeke who are incharge of peace and conflict resolution unit both lauded the organizers of the training for its timeliness.
They added that they would step down the training, and be more committed to the issues of community security to enhance social cohesion.
Highlight of the training was presentation of Certificates to the participants.
