The newly appointed career Ambassadors on Wednesday received their letters of credence.
Presenting the letters, the Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof Viola Onwuliri, enjoined the six Envoys to implement the country’s foreign policy to the letter.
The Ambassadors and their postings are S.U Amhed (Sri Lanka), Ifeoma Akabogu-Chinwuba (Cote d’Ivoire), Bassey Archibong (Gabon), Adadu Echi (Equatorial Guinea), Adadu Emozozo (Brazil) and Modupe Quist-Adebiyi (Sierra Leone).
Onwuliri charged them to be accountable and to give priority to protecting the interest of Nigerian, saying “We would not want to get complains from Nigerians that they are not well taking care of.
“I am pleased to note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under our watch, has kept faith with this commitment.
“You are expected to carry the flag of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and particularly the Transformation Agenda to the world with a view to ensuring that you secure the best possible advantages and opportunities for Nigeria and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora. The government and people of Nigeria expect no less from you.”
The minister reassured that government would continue to appoint career ambassadors taking cognizance of merit, gender, competence and seniority so as to strengthen professionalism in the conduct of Nigeria foreign policy.
Ambassador S.U Ahmed, who responded on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the Federal Government for giving them opportunity to reach the peak of their career, promising to project the country positively to the outside world.
