By Paul Efiong Even as the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission ( NERC) has promised to reel out people’s friendly electricity tariff plan within the week, an association of electrical contractors has warned against incessant power outage in view of its negative effects on the economy in recent past ,describing power as a foundation upon which industrialized sectors are laid.
Speaking with Prompt News in Abuja, the Chairman of Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) in the FCT, Ofodum Vitus Ikenna urged NERC to ensure that the long awaited new tariff plan is devoid of crazy bill that is imposed on the people without value for money.
Ikenna also used the opportunity to call on the government along with its agencies to support his union activities by creating enabling environment to ensuring that their mandates which includes; arresting and prosecution of unlicensed electrical contractors in the country succeed noting that government should be supported by private sector to carry out its assignment.
He expressed regret that despite his union unselfish and willing sensitization on Nigerians against the use of substandard and quark electrical materials in the country, such items still infiltrate Markets alleging that Standard Organization of Nigeria(SON) have failed on their constitutional mandates to the Nation and her citizenry.
LECAN boss also expressed optimism on President Buhari led-government stating that the appointment of the current minister of power was well made and should be supported by all Nigerians to enable him support in his dreams and aspiration for the sector and the country in general.
