            NEMA and IDPs

In line with commitment of partnership with stakeholders, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the weekend delivered relief assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Jalingo which were distributed in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Taraba State Chapter.
Delivering the items, Director General of NEMA Muhammad Sani Sidi said the Agency was determined to sustain efforts at building synergy with the stakeholders for transparency and efficient management of disasters in the country. He assured that NEMA as Agency of the Federal Government would continue carry out its mandates by carrying along all stakeholders that include governmental, non-governmental and faith based organizations. In this regard, he said the Agency has commenced the process of mapping all non-governmental organizations engaged in disaster management in the country.
The Director General of NEMA who was represented by the Head of its Gombe Operations Alhaji Saidu Ahmed Minim conveyed the concern of the Federal Government over the plights of the IDPs and assured them of continued supports to enable them return to their communities and normal livelihoods.
In his remark, the Permanent Secretary of Taraba State Emergency Management Agency Mr Nuvalga Dan Habu thanked the Federal Government for the supports and said it will surely alleviate the plights of the IDPs.
Responding on behalf of the IDPs, Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria Taraba State Chapter Bishop Timothy Yahaya, appreciated the prompt response of the Federal Government for the relief supports delivered by NEMA. The Chairman who was represented by the Treasurer Dr Isaiah Magaji assured that the items would be distributed to the IDPs. He said the IDPs were made up of people affected by communal crises in the state and some whose communities were affected by the security in parts of Adamawa State.
The items delivered were food and non-food materials including bags of grains, rice, textiles, beddings and roofing materials.
