The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced training of 70 unemployed persons on different vocational skills in Nasarawa State, to promote self sustainability.
Mr. Chris Bamsida, the State Coordinator, said 20 women would be trained on confectionary making, 20 in tie and dye and 30 in souvenir making.
The agency also disbursed N20,000 loan each to 98 selected beneficiaries of Micro Economic Enhancement Scheme (MEES) and N1.5 million each to 3 persons under Mature People Programme (MPP)
He said the initiative was to enable them to achieve self reliance as well as contribute positively to the economic development of the nation.
Bamsida made this known during the formal inauguration of the training programme at a five-day programme for the 70 women in Lafiya on Wednesday.
He said that competent resource persons had been engaged for the training, saying the trainees would be exposed to different entrepreneurial skills for self development.
He also urged the beneficiaries to be committed and responsive to ensure the objectives of the scheme were achieved.
“Attendance must be taken seriously. Average daily attendance and cumulative must not be less than 85% to qualify each beneficiary for the empowerment kits.
“Also the participants must ensure proper and comprehensive documentation, have functional bank account where account name and beneficiary’s name must match.
” At the end of the WEB training, the sum of N20,000 only will be disbursed to each beneficiary that meets the conditions of the scheme,” he said
The state coordinator said that similar training was holding across some 24 states of the federation.
“I therefore look forward to seeing the best makers of chin-chin, spring roll, Samosa, cake, puff-puff, doughnut, souvenirs, tie and dye fabrics from Nasarawa State.”
Bamsida said that the micro enterprises remained the engine room to generate income, self-employment and empowerment for small and medium scale business operators.
” In this wise, selected 98 beneficiaries of Micro Economic Enhancement Scheme (MEES) will each be disbursed with loan of N20,000 only.
“Also, three MPP beneficiaries will each benefit from the loan facility of N1.5 million to manage their chosen skills.
He urged the beneficiaries of the facilities to pay promptly, to pave the way for other unemployed persons to benefit .
” I want to emphasise that the beneficiaries must repay the loan to pave way for other unemployed persons to benefit, considering the rising rate of unemployment and its related consequences.
I want to use this rare opportunity to call on individuals, organizations and governments to collaborate with the directorate, to fight the threat of unemployment in Nasarawa State.”
