The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has begun the training of 1,850 participants under the 2024 Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) across 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The agency said the training would among others, create employment for the rural communities through training on modern innovative agricultural technology (exotic vegetable crops/ livestock production skills).
Mallam Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo, the NDE Director General, announced this during the inauguration of SADTS for 50 participants of Nasarawa State on Monday in Lafia.
The DG, who was represented by Mr Chris Bamsida, the Nasarawa State NDE Coordinator, said the agency was established to address unemployment in the country, hence the need for the training.
“These prospective participants are drawn from the local governments and senatorial districts of the 36 states of the federation and FCT.
” The aim of the training will, among others, create employment for the rural communities through modern innovative agricultural technology (exotic vegetable crops/ livestock production skills) along its value chain.
It will “improve the livelihood of the rural people, reduce rural-urban migration and expose unemployed youths to the potentials in exotic vegetable crops and livestock production farming businesses”.
Nuhu-Fikpo congratulated the participants and urged them to take the training with all seriousness.
” I therefore congratulate the lucky participants of this training scheme in the 36 states of the federation and FCT where this flag off ceremony is taking place simultaneously.
” Let me remind the participants to see this gesture as a rare opportunity which should not be allowed to fail.
“Remember that with the training, you will be empowered in modern agricultural activities, including off-farm activities and life skills to be able to overcome the challenges of your immediate environment,” he added
He said that the training would provide them with the opportunity to acquire knowledge required to set up agribusinesses.
” You should therefore justify these efforts by putting in your best to succeed as agripreneurs.
“The NDE attaches very high premium to this initiative due to its multiplier effect for increased job creation,” he said.
The DG appreciated all collaborators, particularly agency’s development partners, state government, National Assembly and other Stakeholders for their tremendous support.
” I invite all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands and partner with the NDE for the benefit of the unemployed in our midst,” he added.
