The National Council on Privatisation (NCP) under the Chairmanship of the Vice-President Kashim Shettima has approved the 2024 work plan for the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, made this known while briefing newsmen after the maiden meeting of the council, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Bagudu also revealed that the council had approved four Standing Committees with membership from both the public and private sectors.
” Today, the first National Council of Privatisation (NCP) meeting under the reconstituted council chaired by His Excellency Vice President Kashim Shettima took place.
The minister said, ” The meeting was held with the Vice Chairman of the council being the Coordinating Minister of Economy as well as members from both the private and public sector.
” The council deliberated and approved four standing committees of the council as well as approved the work plan for 2024 for the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE).
” The Chairman of the council noted with satisfaction the tremendous efforts that the management and staff of the BPE have put in putting the documents for the council meeting together.”
Bagudu said that the council would take decisions that would make the Nigerian public enterprise sector more efficient and would be taken up with renewed vigour.
” The Chairman of the council, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, has even demanded that the council must meet as regularly as possible.
” So that where we need to reform institutions, we do so with dispatch, where we need to sell or concession them or put them in an arrangement that will bring more value to Nigerians also that will be done with dispatch.
” So that the assets are put to better use, incomes and employment are generated from them and national prosperity is enhanced,” Bagudu said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shettima had on Friday inaugurated the newly-constituted members of the NCP to work towards actualising the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Shettima also enjoined them to defy the way things were being done in the past with a view to pave way for economic growth that was in harmony with the aspirations of the citizens.
He added, ” Our decisions here must transcend the boardrooms; they must resonate in the lives of our fellow citizens, from Abia down through Lagos and to Zamfara states.” (NAN). READ ALSO:
