Nasarawa State First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule has charged members of the State Malaria Elimination Programme to step up their campaign so as to educate residents on the dangers of malaria.
Silifat Sule made this call when she hosted members of the Programme led by the Director of Public Health at her office in Government House, Lafia, Tuesday.
Expressing worry over the increasing cases of Malaria, she noted that number of deaths occasioned by malaria, especially among pregnant women and children is alarming, hence the need for decisive action to tackle the menace.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on you members of the Malaria Elimination Programme to step up campaign among residents of the state to always keep their environment clean for healthy living,” she said.
Wife of the governor, while pledging to collaborate with the State Malaria Elimination Programme to bring an end to the disease in the state, called on parents, particularly pregnant and nursing mothers to always sleep under treated mosquito nets.
Earlier, leader of the delegation and Director of Public Health at the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Alhassan said they were at the first Lady’s Office to seek for her collaboration in the fight against malaria.
The Director of Public Health stressed that use of treated mosquito nets is the best way to eliminate malaria which is one of the leading causes of death among children.
