The Nasarawa House of Assembly has commenced oversight function to government Ministries, Departments and Agencies ( MDAs) to ensure accountability and effective service delivery in the state.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi declared this during the House plenary in Lafia today.

The speaker said that oversight functions are not a witch-hunt but meant to enable lawmakers assess performance of those in charge of service delivery.

“I want to state very clearly that oversight function is not meant to witch hunt anybody or to harass anyone but to ensure that the right things are done for the betterment of our people and the entire state”.

“Oversight functions are key aspect of our mandate because it offer us the opportunity to assess the deployment of resources,” he said.

He further explained that the function gives the opportunity to ensure managerial prudence in the overall interest of the general public.

Hon. Balarabe cautioned members against compromising with managements of MDAs while discharging their oversight functions.

The speaker appealed to all the members to invest their time and energy to ensure that they carry out the exercise effectively as it is their constitutional duty.

He directed all standing committees of the House to commence oversight function to all government MDAs beginning from today, 3rd June, 2020.
