The governorship bid of the immediate past Minister of Information, Labaran Maku Monday received a big boost as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) endorsed him and pledged total support.
Speaking at a dinner organized in honour of the minister at the National Press Centre in Abuja, President of NUJ Mohammed Garba, whose message was delivered by the Scribe, Usman Lema, said Maku has distinguished himself in his career and as a minister.
He said, “Labaran Maku is an effective and efficient administrator with a knack for accountability and he is open minded, “urging the people of Nasarawa State to support him.
Speaking earlier, Maku had said, “I have been released by my boss and my leader (Jonathan) to go on an adventure to vie for the governor of Nasarawa State”.
He also spoke about his period as minister, describing it as trying moments but hastened to thank the media for the unalloyed support accorded him that enable him to succeed.
His words, “This moment is not an easy moment. We have been together for four and half years and it looks like it will never end.
“The position of minister has never entered my head because I became a minister by the grace of God.
“Jonathan appoints people minister because he believes in them; he does his things on principle. I thank him this evening, I thank his family.
“No one can be s successful minister of information without your (media) support. I appreciate you for what you have done, for supporting me”.
The dinner was attended by top officials in the Ministry of Information, NUJ officials at the national and Abuja Council levels and the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade.
