Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa has sent a letter to the state House of Assembly seeking approval to appoint 50 additional Special Advisers (SAs).
The request is contained in a latter addressed to the Speaker, Mr Haruna Aliyu, which was read during the plenary on Tuesday.
“In line with the provisions of Sections 96 (1) and (2) of Part II of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I write to request for the consideration and approval of the State Legislature for the appointment of 50 Special Advisers of the Jigawa State Government,” the governor said.
Namadi said that while Section 91 (1) empowers him to appoint any person as a special adviser to assist him in the performance of his functions, Section 96 (2) stated that the number of such advisers be prescribed via resolution of the House of the Assembly of the state.
“Accordingly, the Honourable House may consider and approve as requested. This would be an addition to the 25 earlier approved by the Honourable Members,” he said.
According to Namadi, the request is inline with his administration’s commitment to implement multi-facted socio-economic development projects as contained in the 12-point agenda: “Development for Greater Jigawa”.
This, he said, would ensure the institution of a broad and inclusive government to fast track effective governance of the state.
The Majority Leader, Mr Lawan Dansure, moved a motion urging the members to approved the governor’s request and seconded by the Chief Whip, Mr Yahaya Muhammad.
Dansure said the approval would assist the governor in ensuring smooth running of the state affairs.
The House, thereafter, adjourned to Aug. 23, for further deliberation on the request. (NAN)
