Bolaji Oyegunle, London: Chelsea are targeting Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo as a replacement for John Mikel Obi should the midfielder as expected, leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The Nigerian, who only last season signed a new five year contract, is resigned to leaving London now that Jose Mourinho is back in charge and has been persistently linked with a move to Turkey. Now Mourinho is lining up Brazilian defensive midfielder Gustavo to take his place. He would cost upwards of £16 million and has two years remaining on his contract in Germany. It may not prove an easy move, however the 25 year-old, who played for Brazil in the Confederation Cup, has only recently claimed he is happy at Bayern with no plans to move. Chelsea are confident they can persuade him, otherwise, especially after Pep Guardiola has added to his midfield ranks with the signing of Thiago Alcantara earlier this week. |
