Members of Methodist Church Nigeria Men’s Fellowship have urged well meaning individuals and corporate organizations to do whatever within their means to persuade the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration to end the prolonged Strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU).
According to a communique issued by the National Public Relations Officer, (NPRO) of Methodist Men’s Fellowship, ‘Tunde Babalola JP, “this is necessary to salvage the nation’s education sector from total collapse.”
Rising from her four-day National Executive Committee (NECO) meeting held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Okigwe, Imo State, Methodist men said, “NECO in session frowned at the attitude of the Federal Government towards resolving the ongoing strike of ASUU, insisting that there is urgent need to resolve the matter amicably in the interest of our children and to avoid the total collapse of the education sector”.
The meeting also encouraged her members and the entire Christian bodies in Nigeria to ensure that their members collect their PVC’s and vote credible candidates in the forthcoming elections.
It deplored the spate of Insecurity in the country and commended members of NECO for attending the meeting irrespective of security challenges in the Southeast zone of the country.
The meeting congratulated the Prelate – elect of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Aba and wished him a successful tenure while urging all Methodists throughout the Conference Area to support him to succeed. It also commended the out – going Prelate, His Eminence Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka Uche for a successful Benue 2022 Conference and eventful tenure.
Other highlights of the communique included:
* NECO in session resolved to continue with it’s monthly prayer/fasting programme, pointing out that Nigeria need prayers more than ever before, and the time is NOW.
* NECO encouraged her members to be involved in the activities of the church.
* NECO agreed to continue with Biennial Conference till further notice.
* NECO directed that wearing of Men’s Fellowship Uniform ” Ankara” in all its functions is compulsory by all members.
The meeting holds twice a year and was chaired by Men’s Fellowship National President, Sir Dr Kehinde Olasunkanmi Oladeji KJW.
His Grace, Most Rev B. L. Onuagha had declared the NECO meeting open during an Holy communion service.
