An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Popoola Gbenga, over an alleged assault and threat to life.
Prosecutor Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi told the court that the incident occurred on September 8 around 3 p.m. at Asabi Village, Modakeke, in Ife East Area Office.
He alleged that the defendant threatened the life of one Omoboye Oyedele with a single-barrel gun before attacking him with a cutlass, inflicting bodily harm.
Osanyintuyi further claimed that Gbenga’s actions caused panic in the community and disrupted public peace.
The charges, he said, contravened sections 86(2), 249(d), 252, 351, and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, who appeared without legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of threat to life, assault, and breach of peace.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi declined to grant bail and ordered Gbenga’s remand at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Ile-Ife.
The case was adjourned until October 6 for mention at the Modakeke Magistrates’ Court.
