A Federal High Court in Kaduna on Friday sentenced Ahmed Yusuf to four years in prison for unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
The drugs include 1.3 kg of cannabis sativa and 190 grammes of exxol tablets.
Yusuf of Muciya Babban Titi, Sabon Gari Local Government of Kaduna State, was arraigned on a two count charge of possession of illicit drugs by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Justice Hadiza Shagari, sentenced Yusuf without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
“Since you have pleaded guilty to the charges and the evidence before this court needs no further proof, l sentence you to three years in prison with no option of fine for the first count charge.
“For the second count charge, I sentence you to one year also with no option of fine, “ She said.
The judge ordered that the sentences should run concurrently and ordered the NDLEA to destroy the cannabis.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr T.J. Atserhegh told the court that the convict was arrested with 1.3 kg of cannabis sativa and 190 grammes of exxol tablets by NDLEA personnel.
To further prove the guilt of the convict, Atserhegh presented before the court certificate of test analyst, parking of substance form, request for scientific form and statement of the convict.
He submitted before the court the 1.3 kg unanalysed cannabis, as well as the 190 grammes of exxol tablets.
Atserhegh said the offences are punishable under section 11c of the NDLEA Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. (NAN)
