A 48-year old man, Sheyi Akanji, was on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly obtaining N2.5 million under false pretenses.
The Police charged Akanji with two counts of obtaining by false pretense and stealing by conversion.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, SP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in June 2022 at Ipaja Road, near TCN, NEPA Junction, Ipaja, Lagos State.
The prosecutor said the defendant obtained the amount from the complainant, one Mr Samson Oladapo, with false pretence of selling one Mack Truck to him, a representation known to be false.
The prosecutor said the defendant also stole and converted the money to his personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail for N250,000 with two sureties in like sum who must provide proof of tax payments and verification.
Kubeinje also said one of the sureties must be the defendant’s blood relative.
She adjourned the case until April 16 for mention. (NAN)
