Yahaya Mohammed, a businessman, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has declined to grant her wife’s divorce request only on the condition that she pays him N160,000.
He told an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, FCT, that his wife, Hauwau Hamza must also find him another wife as well as refund the dowry he paid on her and money for clothings.
The couple told the court they were married according to Islamic law in 2020 and do not have children together.
PROMPT NEWS reports that Hamza (wife) is seeking dissolution of her marriage with Mohammed alleging lack of care and respect.
Responding, Mohammed told the court: ”If she wants a divorce, she has to get me another wife. I want my wife to pay me all I spent on her at our wedding.
”I paid N60,000 as dowry to marry my wife and spent N100,000 for her clothes, I insist she pays me back the total sum”.
But, the wife, Hmaza, posited that it was not Islamically appropriate for her to get a wife for her husband.
On the demand for N160,000, she said that Mohammed did not spend up to N160,000 on her, saying that her dowry was N60,000 only.
Her words, “I do not have N160,000 to give him, only if he can also pay me for the satisfaction I gave him during the marriage and the cooking I have done over the years”. READ ALSO:
