A yet-to-be-identified man narrowly escaped death after a truck tyre exploded while he was allegedly attempting to puncture it in a viral video circulating on social media.
The incident, captured in a short clip shared widely online, showed the man approaching a parked truck before allegedly trying to damage one of its tyres with a sharp object suspected to be a knife.
Seconds later, the tyre burst with a loud explosion, throwing the man forcefully to the ground as startled bystanders screamed in panic.
Although the exact cause of the confrontation could not be immediately verified, social media users speculated that the man may have acted out of anger over the truck’s parking position.
The incident has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians warning against the dangers associated with tampering with heavy-duty truck tyres.
One social media user, identified as Ifeanyi Ezeme, criticised the alleged act, describing it as reckless and dangerous.
Another user, identified on X as @DudeRodri, who claimed to be a tyre expert, explained that truck tyres are usually inflated with extremely high pressure capable of causing severe injuries when they explode.
According to him, the impact from such an explosion could result in ruptured eardrums, concussion and other life-threatening complications.
Some commenters also recounted similar tragic experiences involving truck tyres.
A user identified as @Knightkayyy claimed to know someone who died after attempting to damage a parked truck, alleging that a cutlass used in the attack rebounded and struck the victim fatally.
Another commenter, @UjaOliver, warned that the man in the viral video could still develop serious health complications if he failed to seek urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, another social media user, @adisadaniel3, narrated how a truck tyre burst on the road and reportedly threw a passenger out of a commercial bus due to the force of the explosion.
