A 51-year-old man, Funsho Ogunmola, was on Friday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly swindling a businesswoman of 250 bags of cement and 1,400 pieces of moulded blocks.
The goods are worth N702, 000.
Ogunmola, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing preferred by the police.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in October 2021 and November, 2021 at Ipaja, Lagos State.
According to him, the defendant fraudulently obtained 250 bags of cement and 1,400 pieces of moulded blocks from one Mrs Christiana Adeyemi.
He said that the defendant obtained goods in the guise of paying for them after sales.
The prosecutor said that the defendant sold the goods but converted the proceeds to his personal use.
Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, adding that one of them must be a blood relation of the defendant.
Ariyo also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 22 for mention. (NAN)
