A 32-year-old man, Sama Essossimma on Thursday appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly defrauding three employment seekers of N950,000.
Essossimma, whoes address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 8 at 3.30p.m. at Ajara Agric. Gate, Badagry.
Okuoimose said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum N950,000 from the complainants, Biong Patrick, Annon Tomkara and Wisan Argu promising that he would help them get jobs.
“The defendant failed to fulfill this promise; instead converted the money to his personal use,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 provides 15 years jail term for fraud.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefioye said the sureties should reside within the jurisdiction of the court and be gainfully employed.
He adjourned the case until May 17 for mention.
