Timileyin Ajayi, a 32-year-old man, has been taken into custody by the Nasarawa State Police Command in Lafia for the alleged murder of 24-year-old Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
The incident occurred when Adaidu, who was stationed in Abuja, visited Ajayi’s home in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.
Ajayi was arrested on Sunday, January 12, while attempting to dispose of Adaidu’s severed head after allegedly dismembering her body.
He was later paraded before the police with the knife and machetes believed to have been used in the crime.
In an interview with Channels Television, Ajayi, who appeared to have been injured during a mob attack prior to his arrest, admitted to the crime.
He explained that the murder was not premeditated, but was triggered by feelings of jealousy after discovering Adaidu’s alleged infidelity.
“I killed her because we were not spending enough time together. It wasn’t planned; it just happened that day when I found out she was cheating on me. I saw the chats with other men on her phone, and that’s when I decided to act,” Ajayi said.
When asked if he regretted his actions, Ajayi replied, “I don’t regret it. Life is reciprocal—if you do something to someone, you should understand what they are going through. That’s why I don’t feel remorse. We were compatible.”
Adaidu’s family has expressed disbelief at the allegations, stating that they were unaware of any relationship between Adaidu and Ajayi.
Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, insisted on justice, saying, “We don’t know this man.
