A 32-year-old man, Abraham Chisom-Nwogu, on Thursday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing two motorcycles.
Chisom-Nwogu, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 24 at about 5.20 a.m., at Ogba-Ayo area, Ijoko, Ogun.
Adaraloye said the defendant was caught by the vigilante group with a motorcycle with registration number TTN 473 VR, suspected to have been stolen because he could not give satisfactory account of the ownership of the motorcycle.
He added that the defendant was handed over to the police and during their investigation, the police discovered another motorcycle at the house of the defendant.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 430(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs. A.O.Adeyemi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 9 for further hearing. (NAN)
