The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero has commiserated with the people and Government of Katsina state over the passing of Malam Wada Maida, former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Maida, a serving Chairman of the NAN Board of Directors, died on Monday in Abuja.
Bayero stated this when he paid a condolence visit to Gov. Aminu Masari, in Katsina on Wednesday.
He described the late Maida as the elder statesman not only in Katsina State but the country at large.
The Emir noted that Wada distinguished himself in journalism profession and created a bench mark that can never be forgotten in the near future.
“We prayed Almighty Allah to give the family, close associates of the deceased and members of staff of NAN the courage and fortitude to bear the great loss.”
“I hereby, on behalf of Emirs of Rano, Bichi, Karaye and Gaya of Kano State extend our sympathy over the killings of innocent people by bandits in state and the demise of the icon of journalism profession, Malam Wada Maida.”
“We pray Almighty God to grant the souls of the departed internal rest and May Allah bring the kidnapping and banditry to an end,” Bayero said.
In a response, Masari thanked the Emir and his entourage for the visit pointing out the people of Katsina State would continue to maintain the cordial relation with the people of Kano Xtate which has been in existence for centuries.
