Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu is confident his side will continue to improve as they intensify preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Prompt News Online reports.
The nine-time African champions edged Senegal 2-1 in an international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Friday, with Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne finding the back of the net.
Both teams will meet again in a second friendly at the same venue on Monday as the Super Falcons continue their build-up to the continental tournament.
Madugu expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress and reiterated that the main objective of the friendly matches is to fine-tune the squad ahead of WAFCON 2026.
“We are focused on preparing the team for WAFCON, and every game gives us an opportunity to improve. We believe the team will keep getting better as we continue to work together and build towards the tournament,” Madugu said.
It’s a good result, and naturally, when you playin. any game, you always want to win,” Madugu said via official54fx.
“This is a preparatory game, and the aim is to assess our readiness, test the strategies we want to execute in the competition, and give players the opportunity to showcase what they can do to provide us with more options with the players.
“These are the matches we use to identify which players are fully ready for the WAFCON. It was not so much of a bad game for us, but as you know, there is always room for improvement.
“Yes, we did well, but we know there is still a lot of work to be done.”
