The Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, is to begin the rehabilitation of roads across the council area in a bid to make residents enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, the caretaker chairman of the local government made this disclosure while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Okitipupa.
Adesanya said that he was worried about the potholes and bad shapes caused by downpour and erosion across the council area, describing the situation as an eyesore.
He said that the rehabilitation of road network tagged, “Operation Fill the Potholes’’ would begin by September after the rainy season, adding that all human, capital and material resources were fully on ground for the task.
“I have gone through all the roads in the council and discovered so many potholes caused by rain and erosion.
According to him, the council is ready to embark on the “Operation Fill the Potholes’’ to rehabilitate all the affected roads but we are still waiting for the rain to stop, hopefully by September.
He, however, called for the cooperation of residents of the council to ensure that they dispose their wastes properly and do not dump refuse in waterways.
NAN reports that the council chairman earlier began the clearing of 52 kilometers road verges to destroy criminals’ hideouts in order to stem insecurity and reduce waterlog on the roads.
The ongoing clearing of road verges began from Okitipupa to Ikoya, Ilutitun, Iju-Odo, Igbotako, Erekiti and stop at Akinfosile at the Shagamu-Ore expressway.
