Stakeholders and officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have endorsed Mr Mohammed Idris, the immediate past council chairman, for re-election.
Mr Moses Malle, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of APC, Nassarawa Eggon local government area, announced this on Monday after a meeting with stakeholders and party executive members from the eight electoral wards of the area.
Malle said that the endorsement of the former council boss followed agreement reached by stakeholders from Nassarawa Eggon East, and Nassarawa Eggon West, respectively.
Malle, a former Overseer, Akun Development Area, said that the meeting was aimed at briefing the party stakeholders and party executive members on the upcoming ward congress and local government election in the state.
“We have been advised to work towards having census candidates that will represent the party in the forthcoming chairmanship and councillorship local government election in the state.
“Let’s try to have one candidate in all of our wards that will stand with other political parties during the election.
“We have also been advised to allow the present executive members of the party to continue (that is continuity) as we may have few new ones to accomodate defectors anytime that there will be our party congresses.
“This is in the interest of our party and for the overall development of our area, the state and the country at large,” he said.
Moses called for peaceful resolution of all aspirants that purchased their nomination forms for the election, while advising aspirants to respect the decision of the stakeholders and party officials in the interest of the party.
He called on the people of the area to support Sen. Godiya Akwashiki; Mr Mohammed Aggah, member representing Nassarawa Eggon East constituency at the state legislature, among other leaders to succeed.
“I want to call on all of us and the people of the state to support Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration to succeed beyond 2023,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Dr Garus Ismaila, a stakeholder from Eggon East; Malam Umar Gombe, a stakeholder from Eggon West, and Alhaji Mohammed Ubangari, Chairman, critical stakeholders of the area, all endorsed Idris boss for a second term in office.
They explained that re-electing Idris, who is from Eggon East for a second term, would provide an opportunity for power shift to Eggon West after the expiration of his six years in office.
Also speaking, Mr Julius William, the Chairman of APC Ward Chairmen Forum, Nassarawa Eggon local government branch, commended the party executive for providing purposeful leadership.
“We the executive members of APC in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area have endorsed Hon. Mohammed Danlami Idris (Odasco) for second term in office,” he said.
On his part, Mr Mohammed Usman, the state APC Caretaker Committee Financial Secretary, appreciated the stakeholders and ward executive members of the party for their wise decision for endorsing the former council boss.
