The Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, has initiated criminal proceedings against two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State over the alleged assault of a legal practitioner, Aladodo Nurudeen.
The officers, identified as Ajayi Gbolahan and Busari Babatunde, were accused of physically attacking the lawyer while he was reportedly carrying out his professional duties at the NSCDC office in Ilorin.
According to court documents dated April 14, 2026, and signed by the NBA Secretary, Dauda Jimoh, the incident occurred on April 10 at the NSCDC command headquarters in the Kwara State capital.
The complaint, obtained by Saturday PUNCH on Friday, alleged that Nurudeen had visited the command to attend to a client when the officers confronted and assaulted him despite being informed that he was a lawyer.
The association stated that the lawyer was waiting near his vehicle under a tree when the officers allegedly approached and attacked him without provocation.
The complaint further alleged that the officers, alongside others, forcefully dragged the lawyer into a room within the premises where he was subjected to further assault.
“The actions of the officers were unprovoked and amount to a blatant abuse of power,” the NBA said, adding that the victim sustained injuries and suffered humiliation during the incident.
The association also accused the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC of allegedly witnessing the incident without intervening.
According to the complaint, the alleged offences bordered on assault, causing hurt, criminal intimidation, insult and annoyance, contrary to Sections 265, 246 and 396 of the Penal Code Law.
At the last sitting of the court, counsel to the prosecution, Prof. D.A. Ariyo-Osu, represented by J.S. Muhammed, informed the court that the NSCDC commandant had allegedly failed to obey an earlier order directing him to produce the accused officers.
The prosecution subsequently applied for a warrant of arrest against the defendants and also requested a summons compelling the commandant to appear before the court and explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.
Counsel for the NSCDC, M.M. Kolo, apologised for the absence of the commandant and told the court that the first defendant, Ajayi Gbolahan, allegedly disappeared after disciplinary action was commenced against him by the corps.
