Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has inaugurated the State Project Steering Committee (SPSC) for the World Bank-assisted Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment Project (AGILE AF Project-Zamfara).
This is contained in a statement issued by the project’s Communications Officer, Malam Bashir Kabir, in Gusau on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the committee has the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Kabiru Attahiru as Chairman while the permanent secretaries of Ministries of Science and Technical Education, Environment, Education and Women Affairs will serve as members.
Other members of the committee include: the permanent secretaries of Ministries of Youths and Sports Development, Information and Heath as well as the Chairman of the State Teachers’ Service Board, among others.
The committee has the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board as the Secretary.
The governor, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Nakwada, assured of his administration’s commitment toward ensuring effective implementation of the project in the state.
“This project is timely and crucial to the state; we are committed to ensuring that the state develops educationally.
“Gov. Lawal urged the members of the steering committee to work hard for the success of the project in the state,” the statement said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee was mandated to oversee the project and provide overall guidance on its implementation.
Earlier, the Project’s Coordinator, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu-Gusau, said that girls in the state were faced with challenges hindering them from attending and completing secondary education due to socio-cultural and financial challenges.
She applauded the governor for approving the payment of counterpart fund which qualified the state to access the project. (NAN)
