The police in Lagos on Wednesday arrested two suspected robbers at Sabo area of Ikorodu, armed with one barreta pistol.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) gathered that the robbers had already dispossessed some motorists and passers-by of valuables during broad daylight traffic before they were apprehended.
A female motorist, who spoke under anonymity, told NAN that the hoodlums robbed her of mobile phone and cash at Sabo junction in Ikorodu after opening fire to scare people away.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, told NAN that the two suspects were almost lynched before they were rescued by the police.
“They were almost lynched by angry mob in the area before they were eventually rescued.
“One barretta pistol was recovered from them. The CP has ordered that they be transferred to the state Criminal and Investigation Department for proper investigation,” he said.
Adejobi said that efforts were on to apprehend other members of the gang, adding that the suspects were already making useful statements to assist the police in their investigation. (NAN)
